I hope everyone enjoyed the extended weekend of Labor Day.

Weekly Inspiration:

Moonshots live in the gray area between audacious technology and pure science fiction. Instead of a mere 10% gain, a moonshot aims for a 10x improvement over what currently exists. The combination of a huge problem, a radical solution to that problem, and the breakthrough technology that just might make that solution possible, is the essence of a moonshot. ย Can we use moonshot thinking in our discipline?

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  1. Please connect with Brian Robinson on scheduling a time to watch your student-centered lesson. Maybe just give him an idea of when you may be doing the lesson.

  3. Social Media Idea: As you do back to school nights, use a hashtag and tweet pictures. ย For example, #CVPEBack2School
  4. Secondary: Uniforms are shipping Friday from Texas.
  5. Reminder to submit your SLO and IAP’s to your supervisor in the next month or so as directed by them.

  2. I am looking forward to getting into classrooms more and continuing the great conversations that always seem to happen afterwards. I’d like to hear from everyone if they tried something new and/or their thoughts on the student portfolios.

  3. I’m looking forward to enjoying my favorite lessons for the last time! I’m also looking forward to getting to know my kindergarten students and our new students. We have a lot of students who don’t speak English and I love the look on their faces when they learn something new. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I’m excited to try more student centered activities but a little nervous as well. Just concerned about the amount of grading but in the end I think the kids will benefit more. I’m also excited to be on the Faculty Advisory Committee this year (I know, I’m a dork). I represent the dept so any concerns that you have, send my way.

    • I am also looking forward to gaining new ideas for PE lessons and working with Steve at Hampden. As part of my IAP, I will be working with Steve and observing him to find new ways of teaching skills.

  6. I’m looking forward to working with Mike and Eric again this year. Also, I want to try some student self assessments in phys ed. class. I’ve used them in health and feel they work well, so now I want to expand to PE

  7. I am looking forward to working with Danielle and possibly doing some buddy lessons where 4th grade and kindergarten students team up with each other during our gymnastics and climbing classes. Also, even though Donna is a dork she is still way cooler than me ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Looking forward to another year “up on the hill” with my kids and colleagues. Stretching my communication skills with an IAP that includes weekly “tweets” on what each grade level is doing in PE class. It all sounds good – I’ll keep you posted on how it goes! ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. I am looking forward to integrating more technology in the classroom and keeping parents aware of what is happening in class through social media. I would love the opportunity to collaborate with my fellow elementary PE teachers because I often leave the meetings with new ideas!

  13. I am curious to see how the students do with accessing their fitness portfolio on Google Classroom. They will be able to use their devices and school laptops to immediately input their fitness scores so they can keep track throughout all their years at CV. I am also looking forward to some of our student centered projects we want to try in the spring!
